Rising from meager means of the racial rural south during The Great Depression, Maya Angelou journeyed through this garden we call life, experiencing the thorns of the most tragic trials to the blossoms of the most fragrant triumphs. Through her writing, poetry and civil rights activism, she inspired the lives of millions. And for 86 years, made them feel special. Very special.
