It works wonders having someone to talk to about setting goals and planning ways to be successful. It’s even more productive if that person is a special coach who leads others to live a more purposeful life.
Majid Mokhbery, founder and CEO of Amaya International, is a trained ontological coach who helps people achieve their dreams through sessions where clients discuss setting and achieving goals. After earning degrees in engineering, computer science and math, and then a master’s in systems engineering, he spent the first 10 years of his career in the automotive industry in his home state of Michigan.
Acting on the inspiration of Dr. Wayne Dyer, he relocated to California with his family and eventually began a whole new career in Asian health arts, yoga, wellness, body therapy and nutritional therapy. Often serving in roles of teaching and mentoring, he became certified through a world-class coaching and leadership program to hone his mentoring skills.

What is ontological coaching?
Ontological coaching is a powerful, professional discipline in coaching. Ontology is the study of ‘being’ and ontological coaching focuses on coaching as a way of being, as a means of producing major shifts in perception and behavior through all aspects of communication.
What is the brief history of ontological coaching?
Ontological coaching stems from the philosophies of Martin Heidegger, J. L. Austin and John Searle, together with the work of Humberto Maturana, Fernando Flores and Rafael Echeverria. Developed over the past 30 years, it’s primarily a philosophy that sees language as not simply descriptive, but performative and action oriented — how we use language to act in the world and change structure in a dance with our environment.
How does ontological coaching work?
On a practical level, the coaching process addresses setting and achieving goals. On a spiritual level, coaching leads to a purposeful life where actions flow from innermost values. The ultimate goal is supporting people to reach their full potential.
How is ontological coaching administered?
Sessions are generally one hour each week, offered over the phone, but can also be in person. Group coaching is available specially for executive and corporate coaching. Half day and full day workshops are also available based on individual needs.
What are some of the components of ontological coaching?
Coaching provides velocity. We coach the conversation that is in the way of someone’s commitment and we ‘get them out of their own way’ by:
- addressing challenging projects
- designing their desired future
- creating a step-by-step plan to achieving that future
What can ontological coaching help with?
Whether someone is feeling stuck, wants clarity, needs solutions or wants more out of life or business, an ontological coach can:
- help clarify a vision
- offer support to eliminate procrastinations and fears
- maintain focus and accountability
- reveal unneeded unconscious behaviors and patterns
- expect people to do their best and hold them to it
- help people identify and live by their values
What are some popular uses of ontological coaching?
Personal coaching or professional development is about helping people make better decisions about themselves, their life and their business. It isn’t just about making more money – although a big part of professional development is focused on making more money – becoming more profitable and settling on a financial plan that gives them the kind of freedom they desire.
The truth is, most clients are very smart. Yet they still know the value of accessing someone who can be objective, honest and constructive about the options they are facing.
Ontological coaching can help people accomplish their goals, live their dreams, bring joy, fun, satisfaction and power to all areas of their lives. A life coach can support them in creating breakthroughs in their lives in any of the areas they choose, including:
- wellness
- personal finance
- romantic relationships
- performance improvement
- professional, personal and family relationships
- creative projects
- spiritual and existential inquiry
Anything else you’d like to point out about the benefits of ontological coaching?
Our being-based coaching approach is designed to help people create breakthrough results in their life and to continue with those breakthroughs. The tools help create transformational shifts on an ongoing basis.
Are there any precautions about ontological coaching that I should keep in mind?
Coaching can seem confrontational because it operates outside the comfort zone where growth and possibility exist. A coach has no agenda other than supporting people toward their intended results and therefore as a structure it only works if they empower it.
