It’s Monday morning, and as you reluctantly get back into the weekly groove, your stomach may be rumbling louder than a stampede of rhinos. An easy way to power up your day – along with benefiting your heart – is to make slow cooker oatmeal overnight. So easy – so nutritious.
Oatmeal has long been touted for its cholesterol-lowering benefits. Just one bowl each morning can lower your cholesterol by nearly 25%. It also gives you a shot of amazing heart-protecting antioxidants called avenanthramides that can help reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.
Besides how wonderful it is for the heart, oatmeal helps stabilize blood sugar, lower the risk of diabetes and prevent breast cancer. Packed with fiber, oatmeal makes you feel fuller longer, which can help reduce cravings. It’s also gluten-friendly.
And if you have a fussy family to feed, this overnight oatmeal recipe gives them all a chance to personalize it just the way they like. Set out a few containers of cut-up fruit, nuts, brown sugar, spices and honey and let them dive in. It will be like ‘make your own sundae’ – but on Monday. Enjoy!
